Elderly Care

Working in partnership with Build Love Restore (BLR), P2P coordinates efforts locally targeted at bringing hope and meaning back to the lives of Ethiopia’s elderly population, especially those elders left destitute and homeless. Under this project, at-risk elderly persons are connected to community members who are available to provide food, shelter, and medical care. Elders who benefit from this program are often on the verge of becoming homeless due to a lack of an independent source of income and/or dependence on their children to provide for them. This “community placement” program links these elderly with families who are able to provide for them and ensure that they receive adequate care. Several dozen elders are currently receiving support under this initiative. For only $1/day and elderly person can be given food, shelter, and other necessities for an entire month!

As part of a new initiative, BLR and P2P launched a permanent home for the elderly homeless in Ethiopia in March 2012. This much needed facility will provide a place where the elderly can receive the food, medical attention, love, and support that they need to live dignified and meaningful lives. Initially, 15 elders will call this new facility “home”.
